Foreign Exchange
Historical Foreign Exchange Rate Comparisons - Australian Dollar (AUD) vs USD, Euro, SGD, HKD and GBP
Although history is not an absolute guide to the future, historical foreign exchange rates should be one of the factors considered when deciding whether and when to make significant money transfers, or whether to take out a foreign currency loan to purchase an asset (eg. property in Australia or elsewhere).
As an indication, the table below provides an illustration of how the Australian dollar (AUD) fared against five other major currencies during 2007, and the ten year period ending on the 31st December 2007 for all currencies except the Euro where the period is 9 years. The rates quoted are Interbank rates – actual rates achieved on transfer will typically be appreciably lower, depending on circumstances and the amount transferred.
